Fetal Echo and my 25 Week Appt

Last monday, we went to the doctors for a Fetal Echo. This is essentially an ultrasound of the baby’s heart. I wasn’t fully aware, going into this pregnancy, that this could be one of the complications because I didn’t know the extent of my family history.

When my Sibling was pregnant with my nephew, he was diagnosed with Aoritc Stenosis and a heart murmur. She was monitored and T was born on schedule. He’s been watched and is seeing some of the best doctors in the country. We didn’t know, at the time of his diagnosis, that our Great-Aunt (on our mother’s side) had this issue and had had a valve replacement. We also didn’t know that this was the issue that lead to the death of our Uncle (on our father’s side). The Sibling and I have both had echo’s done and neither of us have been diagnosed with this disease.

Problem is, it looks as though it skipped our generation. T has it and now our Baby Girl is being monitored for it. We met with a neonatalogist at our appt, who did the Fetal Echo and while she said everything looks ok, there is a spot that she wants to watch. We’ll go back at our 35 week marker and have another echo done on her heart to try and tell the difference between her ventricles growing close together or if they are fusing together, thus weakening the valve.

As if this had thrown us for a loop enough, I went to my 25-week check up yesterday and the midwife found that my blood pressure was extremely high and there are traces of protein in my urine. These are signs that Preeclampsia is developing. After a battle with the midwife, we agreed that she was recommending I go on a half-day work schedule and then a modifiied bed rest. Obviously this isn’t the outcome we were expecting but neither E, nor I work in the most stress-free environments.

We’re hoping for at least another 7 weeks of keeping this little lady safe, warm, and baking so if you could say a little prayer for the three of us, we’d very much appreciate it
