March in the Rear View

Holy Crapola — Where did March go??

We went to MD to celebrate one of the nephew’s birthday but mainly we went to see E’s grandmother, who isn’t doing fantastically.

How much older can she look? Where did my baby go?!

The trip was nice but it’s nice to be back “home” in ME. It was exhausting. Beanie’s first plane ride – she did amazing! We were lucky enough to get an open flight on Southwest Airlines and when we got to the desk, the attendants told us there were open seats so we could take her car seat on the plane with us and put her in it. PTL! We ran into some “groaners”. You know those people, the ones that groan as soon as they realize there is a kid on their flight. Funny enough, she slept before we even took off! We were even praised as people got off the plane, telling us that they were grateful for a peaceful flight with a toddler. The flight home was awesome, as well. A few blips (2 hour delay, no nap, her getting sick while we were flying) but all in all, it was a great trip.

She also found a new hobby. We were cooking dinner one night and I turned around, in a panic and realized she wasn’t around us. I yelled for her and I heard nothing. After a brief moment of “HOLY SHIT, I LOST THE SMALL CHLD IN THE HOUSE”, we heard a little snicker.

And then this:

I got a new HRM and began outdoor running again. Things have actually been going really well in the WLJ department. 3.5 miles this past wednesday and I’m getting ready to sign up for my first ever (YIKES!) 5K. I’m excited but nervous. I did 3.5 miles in 42 mins and walked less than a 1/4 of a mile so I’m hoping to pick up my speed and cut out the walk. I guess the treadmill has helped! I’m also down an entire pants size and 6 lbs. I’m still a ways away from my goal but I’m meeting my mini-goals and that makes me happy 🙂

E and I celebrated our 2 yr anniversary.

AnniversaryTwo years ago, we went to the church with 20 of our peeps (all family) and me being 14w knocked up and we said “I DO”. It was awesome for us. It’s been a crazy two years but there is no one else I’d rather be by my side on this crazy journey of a life!

My iPhone kicked my ass.

Smart Phone. Dumb User.

At least I made J smile.

We welcomed the arrival of Spring. With a foot of snow. WHOMP WHOMP.

Bounce houseAnd we still had to play indoors. But seriously, how awesome are we? What other parents do you know that own a bounce house for their child, let alone put it in the basement for them to play in because it’s just too freakin cold outside?!

We rock!

The verdict came down: Beanie needed tubes for her ears. 5 EIs in 9 months were enough to convince the Ped and the ENT.

Loving the hospital jammies

We have a trooper, y’all. She was a true champ during this procedure. She didn’t cry, she didn’t whine, she was truly awesomesauce!! She allowed the nurses to come in and wrap her up in the blanket and they walked away with her. E and I took it a lot better than we expected, as well. MIL came into town and PTL, she was awesome with us during this time. She helped with Beanie and just allowed us to chill, which we needed desperately.

It also helped that Beanie was acting like nothing ever happened. As seen here in Daddy's sweatshirt

MathMath is still kicking my ass but I’m maintaining a C average. I’m hoping to rock some tests to bring it to a solid B so I can definitely pass the class. It’s tough though. 13 yrs out of HS and trying to do this type of nonsense – it’s bullcrap.

All in all, things have been going well. I’ve had a bit of blogwriter’s block. Nothing major going on, things being incredibly busy, and us being utterly exhausted. I’ve managed to maintain my work outs, which is nice. Hopefully I can pick this back up. It’s not that I write to impress anyone, it’s more of an outlet and a catch up for family and friends who might have the address and want to see what’s up with us, now that we’ve moved.

My mom and sibling come to visit next weekend so I’m super excited!!

Cold = Bullcrap!

POTD Day #23: Something You Love

Artic Fog

Arctic Fog

This was taken this morning in Rockland Harbor. When the air is that much colder than the water, fog can be seen rolling across the water top.

I don’t love the cold. I think this cold is bullshit. I think this temperature is inhumane and I don’t care for it one bit. But I love the Ocean/water. I love the beauty of it and the fact that it reminds me that there is something out there that is bigger than you and me. The fact that it is so serene, yet has the power to be so incredibly deadly.

"Feels like -16*"

“Feels like -16*”

I do not love this.

So there was a mishap in the Coastie house recently. Don’t worry, no one was harmed, physically. Except the Iced Tea Maker Jug.

RIP Iced Tea Jug

RIP Iced Tea Jug

This is what happens when I’m in a hurry to clean my kitchen and I put everything into the dishwasher. Apparently this jug is not “bottom rack of dishwasher safe”. E tried to “reform the plastic” which turned it into this catastrophe. I’m not even sure what the hell he did.

Flying Santa

Every year the Coast Guard hosts Flying Santa. It’s where Santa flies in on a helo and delivers gifts to the kids of the Coast Guard community.

And in true Rockland, Maine fashion: Santa arrives in muck boots. But Santa, please take note: Beanie doesn’t need anymore toys. She’s already doing it wrong.

Christmas Is In The Air

I’ve seen some interesting things in my life but I’ve never seen a town as enthusiastic about things as Rockland is. I’ve figured out the town’s two main loves: Lobster and the Coast Guard.

The town’s love for lobster runs deep. So deep in fact that the town builds a Lobster Trap Christmas Tree. That’s right. An entire 40+ Ft Christmas Tree of lobster traps. Our station got to volunteer to help build it.

That’s me in the orange. I actually got up there and was helping to build this thing

From the inside looking up. The tree was about halfway up

Even E got in on the action. One of his rare days off and he came out to help us ♥

E, channeling his inner climber again

The Lobster is on the top and the tree is complete. (This pic was not photo-shopped. I managed to catch a precip ring at the perfect time)

E’s parentals and my parentals got to see the love of Lobster and the Coast Guard first hand when the Coast Guard (aka my station) brought Santa to Rockland, kicking off the Christmas season.

And the festivities for the weekend concluded with the lighting of the Lobster Trap Tree which marks the official start to the Christmas Season in Rockland.

30 Days of Giving Thanks – Day 16

16) An Experience:

I’m an Active Duty Enlisted person, I think everyone knows this. My “experience” isn’t one I’m thankful for but the outcome of it has made me thankful for my friends and family and that’s Sept 11, 2001.

I was stationed on a cutter and we were among the first responders. I remember hearing that we were leaving and heading down to NYC and my first thought was “WTF did I get myself into?! How can I get off this boat??” but away we went and we stayed there for about 2 months following the attacks.

During that time, our ship was forced to make the best of the situation. We only had each other and it was tough. We couldn’t leave the ship, we couldn’t do laundry at all as much as we’d like, and we were anchored off the Statue of Liberty. The smells, the sights, it was all horrendous.

But it made me incredibly grateful for my friends and family. They sent me care packages with candy and my favorite things. I didn’t get to see them but I know they were thinking of me. It really put things into perspective for me. I love my job but I love my family and friends more.

13 Months Old

Beanie is 13 months old now

And mobile. I can see the gray hair in my future…

With this new found mobility comes this — this is her area of the living room. In the AM, these are all neatly put back together and in a nice pile. Then she wakes up.

I’m not positive why I thought puzzles were a fantastic idea. I like the idea of the Melissa and Doug puzzles because they’re awesome for little fingers/hands. Of course they’re made out of wood which feels AWESOME when she hurls them at us.

But who can be mad when you see this? Seriously. She is so into her books now but she will take every single book off her book case and flip through them. And the hair. I’m both in love and severe hatred of her hair. It’s getting longer but that also equals getting bigger. When she wakes up, I can’t wait to see what she’s done to herself.

Case In Point.

Cozy Coupe Fun

Beanie got a cozy coupe for her birthday — I think she likes it 🙂
